Do color photos alter our perspective of history?

Historic photos are almost always black and white. There are some rare color photos from the 1930s and 40s that have emerged rather recently and they are very stunning. Realistically colorized photos of famous historic events and people, though, seem to evoke an even stronger emotional response in many.

When photos from 70+ years ago are seen in color what is your response? Does it take these people out of a back then world and put them into the real world of real people? Does it make it easier to relate to these people and the events of those times to see them in color? On a basic level, does color make things seem more real?
