We all make mistakes and say things we in a sloppy or laughable way. And the more we talk the more likelihood exists that we will make such errors. Nobody in their right mind disputes that fact.
However, I still remain stumped by the enormous attention given to former Vice President Dan Quayle’s now famous “potatoe” misspelling episode. Really that was a minor thing and is commonly done (just do a Google search for potatoe and you’ll see what I mean). It was much ado over nothing.
Fast-forward to 2008 and presidential candidate Barack Obama. He speaks a lot and has had some notable gaffes. One in particular that stands out to me occurred at a campaign event in Beaverton, OR. Here, Senator Obama claimed to have visited 57 U.S. states during the campaign.
Watch both videos for yourself and see if Senator Obama’s gaffe isn’t the bigger one and worthy of more attention than Vice President Quayle’s.
